Play Therapy Workshops The Heart & Practice of Child Centred Play Therapy 1 Workshop: Perth, Western Australia: 2-4 April 2008 Melbourne, Victoria: 16 - 18 July 2008 Sydney, New South Wales: Please check back soon for dates! Please also register expressions of interest for a Play Therapy workshop to be held in Byron Bay, New South Wales and/or Brisbane, Queensland. Child Centered Play Therapy can be a beautiful and effective way to work therapeutically with children. This introductory workshop offers participants the opportunity to learn about the world of non directive Humanistic Child Centered Play Therapy and about the principles and practices of this therapeutic approach, in a safe and supportive environment. On completion of this workshop, participants will be able to incorporate some of the practices and principles of this Child Centered Play Therapy into their work with children. Areas covered in the workshop will include: · Philosophy of Child Centered Play Therapy & the Heart of the Work
· Empathy & the 4 key healing messages: I am here, I hear you, I understand and I care
· The Power of the Relationship: Sensitivity, compassion & the development of a safe & trusting relationship with the child
· The 4 key healing messages: I am here, I hear you, I understand and I care
· Different types of play we see in Play Therapy & who Play Therapy can help
· Setting up a playroom & the selection of toys and materials
· Play Therapy skills development and facilitative ways of responding to children including tracking behaviour, reflecting feelings & responding empathically, following the child’s lead, allowing children to direct the play, enhancing creativity, returning responsibility to the child
· The ACT limit setting model
· Exploring some of the challenging situations that can present in the Playroom including what to do if...the child is highly aggressive...very sad...wants to leave the playroom...is in a very regressed state
· Case & video material, Play Therapy demonstrations, experiential processes, role plays & reflective processes

Child Centered Play Therapy: A 1 Day Introductory Workshop
Location: Cannonvale, Whitsundays Queensland Date: August 2008 (second week in August: date to be finalised)
Areas covered in this workshop will include:
· An introduction to the philosophy & principles of Child Centered Play Therapy & the Heart of the Work
· What is play therapy, why is it so helpful for children and who can it help

· Recommended toys and materials for the therapeutic playroom
· An introduction to facilitative ways of responding to children through demonstrations & role play practices: includes tracking behaviour, reflecting feelings, responding empathically, following the child’s lead, allowing child to direct the play & returning responsibility to the child
· The ACT limit setting model
· Video: A Clinical Child Centered Play Therapy session, including a theoretical overview of this Play Therapy approach
