Develop Humanistic Play Therapy skills and practices Play Therapy Australia is offering the very popular workshop, The Heart and Practice of Child Centered Play Therapy and the new Play Therapy 10 Day Intensive Course: Heartful Practice in Working Therapeutically with Children, in Perth Western Australia in 2012. This is an opportunity to learn about the world of Child Centered Play Therapy in a safe and supportive learning environment and to immerse in this Play Therapy approach. The Play Therapy 10 Day Intensive Course consists of Workshops 1 and 2, The Heart and Practice of Child Centered Play Therapy and Advanced Play Therapy Practices: Helping Children Heal and Grow. These workshops are the first part of the Play Therapy Clinical Training Program. ____________________________________________ Play Therapy 10 Day Intensive Course: Workshop 1: The Heart and Practice of The Heart and Practice of Child Centered Play Therapy workshop is an introduction to the world of non directive humanistic Child Centered Play Therapy and is offered as a standalone workshop and also as the first part of the Play Therapy 10 Day Intensive Course. This Workshop Includes:
· The history of Play Therapy · The principles, practices and philosophy of humanistic Child Centered Play Therapy · What is Play Therapy, who Play Therapy can help and different types of play · Empathy and the four key healing messages · Child Centered Play Therapy skills based training and facilitative ways of responding to children · Sensitivity, compassion and the deep importance of the relationship when working with children in Play Therapy · Setting up a therapeutic playroom and selection of toys and materials · The ACT limit setting model and applications in the playroom and in other settings with children · An overview of the intake interview and Child Centered Play Therapy assessment process · An introduction to themes and stages in the Play Therapy process · Exploring some of the challenging situations that can present in the playroom and in other situations with children including working with children who are: highly aggressive…in regressed states … silent … wanting to leave the playroom · DVD material from leaders in the field of Play Therapy · Theoretical & experiential learning, case presentations, Play Therapy demonstrations, role plays and personal reflection processes

Advanced Play Therapy Practices: Helping Children Heal and Grow
This workshop is by application following completion of Workshop One and provides the opportunity to more deeply immerse in Child Centered Play Therapy and psychotherapeutic work with children.
This Workshop Includes:
· Deepening into the heart of Child Centered Play Therapy · Advanced Play Therapy skills development and sensitivity training · Explorations of the work of world leaders in humanistic Play Therapy · The fascinating field of Pre and Perinatal Psychology and its application in Play Therapy · Working with children in different stages in the Play Therapy process · Trauma and Healing. Play Therapy with traumatised children and with children who have experienced loss and grief · Parents as partners in the Play Therapy process · Why working with children in Play Therapy is different to working with adults in counselling · What do I need to know about myself when working as a Play Therapist? · Transference, counter transference and projective identification in working with children in Play Therapy · The uniqueness of Play Therapy in helping children heal and grow · Being a Play Therapist: Self care and reflective professional practice · DVD material from leaders in the field of Play Therapy and Pre and Perinatal Psychology · Theoretical & experiential learning, case presentations, Play Therapy demonstrations, role plays and personal reflection processes

Applications to attend Workshop 2 will be accepted from mental health professionals and those studying in mental health fields and who wish to complete the Play Therapy 10 Day Intensive Course.
Applications will be accepted following completion of Workshop 1 in March 2012 and from those who have completed The Heart and Practice of Child Centered Play Therapy workshop in the past 4 years.
